The ASSAL Centre for Foot Medicine and Surgery continues its ambitious development with the arrival of Dr. Victor Dubois-Ferrière.
Geneva, January 18, 2021 – Specializing in conditions of the foot, ankle, and leg, the ASSAL Centre for Foot Medicine and Surgery welcomes Dr. Victor Dubois-Ferrière as its new Associate Physician. An expert in orthopedic surgery and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system, he now joins PD Dr. Mathieu Assal, founder of the Centre, internationally renowned researcher and surgeon, as well as Dr. Lisca Drittenbass, Associate Physician, FMH in orthopedic surgery and traumatology, at the head of the institution. Dr. Dubois-Ferrière took up his position on January 1, 2021.
“We are delighted to see our team grow stronger with the arrival of Dr. Victor Dubois-Ferrière. His medical and surgical expertise, as well as the extensive experience he gained at the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) and McGill University in Canada, will be significant assets to our Centre. They will allow us to continue our growth while ensuring the sustainability of our activities,” emphasizes PD Dr. Mathieu Assal, who adds: “Trained in leading institutions and by renowned international specialists, Dr. Victor Dubois-Ferrière also stands out for his research skills, which is an advantage for the Centre, as we place great importance on this activity. This is evidenced by his innovation awards and publications in the most prestigious international scientific journals.”
A graduate of the University of Geneva, where he also earned his doctorate in medicine in 2014, Dr. Victor Dubois-Ferrière has spent most of his career at the Geneva University Hospitals, notably as chief resident in the Department of Pediatric Orthopedics and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Musculoskeletal Traumatology, where he collaborated with Professors D. Hannouche and P. Hoffmeyer. In 2014, he completed a fellowship in Canada at McGill University in Montreal, specializing in foot and ankle surgery. This experience enabled him to develop expertise in arthroscopic and prosthetic techniques. In 2015, he became head of the foot and ankle surgery team at HUG and, since 2016, has served as senior physician within this institution. A teacher, lecturer, and author of 37 publications and 14 scientific posters, Dr. Victor Dubois-Ferrière is currently leading several research projects in the field of minimally invasive surgery.
“My involvement with the ASSAL Centre opens a new chapter in my career. While this next step certainly brings new challenges, my passion for my profession, research, and innovation remains unchanged. I am looking forward to sharing this passion every day with PD Dr. Mathieu Assal and his entire team, with whom I have already had many opportunities to work in the past; all with the goal of continuing to provide patients with the comprehensive care that makes the Centre unique,” explains Dr. Victor Dubois-Ferrière.
Since its founding in 2012, the ASSAL Centre for Foot Medicine and Surgery has continued to grow. In fact, it has tripled in size over the past eight years. The Centre now counts 12,000 patients and performs more than 700 surgical procedures each year, making it a true center of excellence in Geneva and beyond the cantonal borders. By strengthening its team, Dr. Dubois-Ferrière further confirms this growth, which should eventually position the Centre as a leading institution in foot and ankle surgery in the region. It is also establishing itself as a major center for research and innovation.
