Cysts and other masses

The growth or appearance of bumps in the foot is not uncommon. Often, these are simple cysts or outgrowths that form lumps that are discernible by touch. In this case, we will suggest monitoring the lumps to ensure they do not become painful, which may require additional tests and, possibly, surgery.

Cause

Cysts are masses filled with fluid from the joints. Other masses are outgrowths of various tissues, such as fat, nerve, tendon or bone.

Treatment

Most masses are completely benign and do not require any specific treatment unless they cause discomfort. Depending on their appearance, a more in-depth examination (MRI, CT scan) may be needed to determine the exact origin of the mass and decide on the most appropriate course of treatment.
