Anesthesia

Before undergoing surgical procedure requiring anesthesia, whether general or local, you will first meet with a specialist to discuss the various criteria to be taken into account and your preferences.

The anesthesiologist will propose the method best-suited to your physical and psychological well-being. This is a particularly important step that aims to ensure you are as comfortable as possible during the surgical procedure.

Meeting

Once the surgery date has been set, a meeting with your anesthesiologist will be organized so that together you can choose the type of anesthetic you prefer. During this meeting you will be asked to fill out medical and administrative forms.

You will be informed of the date of your meeting with the anesthesiologist by the Hirslanden Clinique La Colline’s appointment scheduling department, either by phone or by email. This generally takes place 1-10 days before surgery.

Preoperative work-up

To help the anesthesiologist select the best type of anesthesia, he or she will ask you several important health-related questions during your meeting, such as your general health condition, medication intake, on-going treatments, previous anesthesia, etc.

If your medical history or your general health condition requires special attention (medical or surgical history, major procedure, diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, etc.), we may ask your doctor to conduct some preoperative tests.
